Patch server packages

Server Patching lets you check for operating-system package updates and install them from the Coolify dashboard.

Coolify does not install updates automatically. You choose when to update one package or all available packages.

Review updates before installing them

Docker, kernel, and system updates can restart services or require a server reboot. Back up important data and choose a maintenance window before selecting Update All Packages.

Newer package versions, especially Docker releases, can introduce changes that break Coolify or your applications. Review the release notes carefully before updating.

Update server packages

Open Server Patching

Server Patching page in Coolify
  1. Open Servers in the Coolify sidebar.
  2. Select the server you want to update.
  3. Select Security in the server menu.
  4. Select Server Patching.

Check for updates

Select Check for Updates.

Coolify connects to the server and refreshes its package list. Keep the page open until the check finishes.

When updates are available, the page lists the package name and the version that can be installed. If no packages appear after a successful check, the server is up to date.

Review the packages

Before installing anything:

  1. Read the package names in the update list.
  2. Check release notes for important services you run.
  3. Pay extra attention to Docker and kernel packages.
  4. Create a current backup for important applications and databases.

If you are unsure about a package, update it during a maintenance window or leave it for your server administrator.

Install updates

Choose one of these options:

  • Select Update beside one package to install only that update.
  • Select Update All Packages to install everything in the list.

Complete the confirmation when Coolify asks. An activity window shows the output from the server while the update runs.

Do not close the activity window until the command finishes.

Check the server again

After the update finishes:

  1. Select Check for Updates again.
  2. Confirm the installed packages no longer appear.
  3. Return to Servers and confirm the server is reachable.
  4. Open important applications and databases hosted on the server.
  5. If the update requires a reboot, reboot the server through your normal server-management method and wait for it to reconnect to Coolify.

Update notifications

Server Patching notification setting

Coolify checks connected servers for package updates once a week. It sends a Server Patching notification when updates are available or when the check fails.

To review the notification setting:

  1. Open Notifications in Coolify.
  2. Select the notification channel you use.
  3. Find Server Patching.
  4. Enable or disable the notification and save the channel settings.

The weekly check only reports available updates. It does not install them.

Supported package managers

Server Patching currently supports APT, DNF, Zypper, and Pacman. Alpine Linux package updates are not supported from this page.
